What Was I SMOKIN'???

So, the recovery from my voice surgery continues and I am SO HAPPY with the results. I was released yesterday to use a "normal" voice for short amounts of time and to hum smooth melodies to songs! YES!! I have been dying to sing and to hear my new range!

In an effort to get there sooner, I have exercises for my vocal cords. Basically, there is a divot or depression where the cyst used to be on my right vocal cord. With these exercises, I will be able to fill that in with "muscle" which will allow my cords to come together (they have not done that for some time!).

One of my voice exercises is using a kazoo to "hum" out low, mid and high pitches. Then, kazoo-ing from high-to-low and back up 3 reps of 15 for each. The only time I have set aside to do this is in the car.

So, the first few days, I didn't think anything of it. In the past 5 years, I've turned into the lady that you can catch singing her heart out at stop lights. I've got no shame when I'm in my car. However, on the 3rd day, I caught someone staring at me doing my kazoo exercises. I looked down to see what must have looked like a pipe of some sort in my mouth. I had it between my lips for 10 to 15 seconds before taking another breath and blowing into it again. Which could've looked like I was taking another hit!?

As I drove along, it made me laugh to think that if people driving have to take a double take, their thoughts may sound something like: "OMG, is that lady smoking a pipe? That lady's smoking a pipe!!... and she's driving! Right next to me! I better get her license plate number... Wait. I don't see any smoke. Hang on... that's not a pipe! Oh, THANK GOD! What is it then?... OOOOH, it's a kazoo... A KAZOO?? That lady is playing a kazoo while driving alone. Holy moly! It takes ALL kinds!"

I haven't stopped doing my kazoo exercises in the car because, quite frankly, I feel sillier doing them in my house... alone or with Andy and Garith as my audience!

I hope you all had a marvey Memorial Day. I will post again soon!
